Yo, cuz. I just saw GI Joe and... I thought it was just ok. It wasn't that good but it wasn't that bad either. It was simply ok. To me it seemed a little cheesy and cartoony which took a lot from my overall enjoyment. The story had little depth, the dialogue resembled that of a middle school hallway and it just felt like I was watching the live action GI Joe cartoon, not the movie. They did this thing where they would show flashbacks which got very annoying by the hundreth time they did it.
The one thing that redeemed this movie a little for me was the action. The car chase scene was absolutely bananas!! It would have been much better if I haven't been seeing the same scene in previews since the Superbowl, but it was tough nonetheless. In every other scene but the car chase scene the CGI looked pretty cheap. There was a point in the movie where I said to myself "They used too much CGI." And I love CGI! Again, it seemed like a GI Joe made-for-TV movie.
Channing Tatum was very wrong for the part of Duke. His whole performance seemed forced and uncomfortable for him. Marlon Wayans also seemed out of place. You can tell he wanted to be funny, but the one liners they wrote for him were the exact opposite. The cheesiness of this movie can be summed up by the fact that the song for the closing credits was "Boom, Boom, Pow" by the Black Eye Peas. Not a hardcore rock song but a very mainstream pop song.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think this movie was a waste of time or money. It was an entertaining trip to the movies. The action sequences kept me interested and entertained so I can't say it was a bad film. And I'm not saying don't see it. You should definitely see it because its a fun movie but when you do don't expect a mind provoking, Oscar calibur film, expect a fun movie experience. What did y'all think of it? That's about it but stay up.
They should call it CGI Joe
