Olsen deserves all the acclaim she's receiving for her performance here; she's superb, and she convincingly takes the audience on a journey of shattered memories and paranoia as we start to experience her recovery along with her. The editing of this movie was gimmicky - it cross cuts between Martha's present time living with her sister and her sister's husband, and flashbacks of her cult life - but the transitions between the two time periods are very well done. Normally I'dsee a technique like this as being a bit too contrived, but Durkin's writing and direction make the cross cuts feel like an organic progression.

Academy Award Nominee John Hawkes was phenomenal; like The Ledge's Patrick Wilson has a lock on the creepy suburban archetype, Hawkes has playing the backwoods patriarch down to a science. He also gets to show off a bit of his musical skill set, playing guitar and singing the disquieting "Marcy's Song" in the movie. He's alternatingly charismatic and horrifying, much like Michael Parks' cult leader figure in Kevin Smith's Red State. He gives the girls who come to his commune new names to separate them from their past, and builds their self-confidence by essentially brainwashing them into servitude (sexual and otherwise).

It's astonishingly unique and simply a really good movie. Parts of it are tough to watch (brutal, unflinching violence are peppered in here and there), but it also had an ineffable way of making me nostalgic for memories I've never even experienced....Writer/director/star Evan Glodell uses a muted but stylized color palette to great success, and does a great job at capturing an indescribable ambience to match the highly original narrative. There's something immeasurably cool about seeing a real homemade flame thrower fired on screen and a tricked-out muscle car spew actual fire from its exhaust... The writing is strong, the storytelling is fantastic, and Bellflower is one for the ages... Love it or hate it, Bellflower is a ballsy look into love, heartbreak, and destruction that you won't be able to forget.

Super Hadouken's Top 10 Films of 2010!!

10. Black Swan

- This film was truly twisted. A quality psychological thriller by all means. Natalie Portman was really good in this film and should be considered seriously during awards season.

9. Shutter Island

- Scorseses does it again with this psychological thriller. The script, setting, everything just clicked with this film. And Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing as usual. The twist at the end pushed this to one of the top films of the year.

8. The Book of Eli

- This film was sooo tough! The concept was crazy, Denzel was amazing and the action sequences were incredible. Definitely one of the best action films of the year. I know a lot of people slept on this movie but its definitely in the top 10.

7. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

- Ok. This film didn't do as well in the box office as it should have. It was really good. The creativity that was pumped into this project was incredible. The visuals were great and Michael Cera was funny as usual. A future cult classic for sure!

6. The Town

- I'm not particularly fond of Ben Affleck... that was until I saw this movie. He did an amazing job with this film. A classic Boston heist film, The Town is a perfect mix of drama, action and on-screen chemistry. Affleck has definitely redeemed himself with this one. Go see it!

5. Avatar

- There's a reason James Cameron only makes one film like every 5 years. The world is not ready for too many of his films at one time. This film created the 3D fad! By far the best 3D film ever made! Yea I said that. Avatar is visually stunning equipped with a genius concept. Cameron once again proves why he is one of the world's greatest directors.

4. Kick Ass

- Hands down, the best superhero film/ comic book film of 2010. Kick Ass was a perfect mixture of comedy and hardcore action. I've never read the comic but after seeing this, best believe I will. If this is what an R-rated superhero film looks like bring 'em on! I loved this movie.

3. Inception

- Mind-blowing! That's all I can say about Inception. Christopher Nolan is quickly making a name for himself in this business. He is really a problem right now. Its hard to imagine what kind of mind could dream up such a concept but it does exist and its just scary. I loved this movie. I can watch the hotel fight scene all day long. Its simply amazing cinematography and the action never stops. If you haven't seen it yet, prepare to have your mind blown.

2. Toy Story 3

- One of the best reviewed films of the year for good reason. I'm simply in love with this movie. It was like an on-screen adaption of my childhood. It is brimming with nostalgia and is one of the only films that could bring me to tears. A perfect ending to a wonderful franchise and is a very close second for the best film of year. And I do mean close. I see Oscars in this film's future. A lot of them.

1. The Social Network

- This film was simply spectacular! When this movie was announced, I was one of the people who laughed in disgust but I must say, my expectations were exceeded insurmountably. Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher took a concept with little potential and turned it to one of the greatest films of our generation. I can watch this film over and over and over and still want to watch it again. It was great to see how one of the most successful social networks of our time materialized by means of engaging story telling and breath-taking cinematography. Soooo entertaining! If this doesn't win Best Picture, I will be very surprised.

*Yo, cuzzos! There are a few films that I haven't gotten a chance to see that I know would be potentials for this list like The Fighter, Tron: Legacy, True Grit, 127 Hours, and The Kings Speech so don't get upset because they're not on the list. It's not because I don't like 'em, its beacuse I can't judge 'em unless I've seen 'em. But I'mma see them pronto and let you guys know what I think about 'em. Stay Up and Happy New Year!!

6. Jonah Hex

- This film was simply boring to me. It was built up to be this action packed comic book film and it just fell on its face. I wanted to like this film, I really did but it just wasn't that good

5. Takers

- This film was extremely hyped up. Everybody I know loved this movie and built it up to be something great when in all actuality it was a film filled with shaky, unfocused camera work, spotty dialogue and a cliche story

4. Clash of the Titans

- I thought this film was gonna be really cool before it came out.. I was sadly disappointed. I can't really explain what went wrong with this one. It was just disappointing. One of the things that really stood out for me was the crappy CGI and once you mess that up, you've lost me.

3. Ong Bak 3

- *sighs* I had high hopes for this film. And I mean high! Ong bak 2 was a masterpiece! And I thought this would be no different... again I was wrong. They downgraded this franchise. The violent Tony Jaa fighting sequences were rare, the story was long and drawn out and the ending was so stupid! Although if this wasn't a follow up of Ong Bak 2, it would've been pretty decent

2. Harry Potter 7

- This film probably would not have been on this list if I cared about this franchise. But since I don't its on here. While watching this film, I was counting the minutes. Seriously counting the minutes until it was over. The action sequences were ok at best but overall they were lame and the story was long-winded and boring. I feel like this film was made only for the hardcore fans and I am not one of them

1. The Last Airbender

- When I think of the expectations I had for this film, it makes me wanna cry now. I was so hype for this!! I followed it from casting all the way to the first teaser trailer. This was finally gonna redeem M. Night's reputation. This was gonna be one of the year's best films... Yea hell no! This movie was the definition of disappointing. It was very drawn out and the action sequences were redundant. I was literally sitting in the theater reassuring myself that it was gonna get better, even into the last 20 minutes. That's how much faith I had in this film. M. Night Shymalan will make a come back, just not with this garbage. Sorry M. Night.

5. Heroes

- Heroes was one the underrated shows of the year. The season really popped with special guests like Ray Park and even though season wasn't no Season 1 by any means, it was a good season.

4. Boardwalk Empire

- This show is like watching a new Scorsese movie every week. The action is there, the plot is there, and the drama is there. Hands down one of the best dramas on Tv right now.

3. Walking Dead

- Not only is this show a zombie slaughter fest, it has very deep dramatic elements. Its very well structured and will be around for at least 5 more seasons at this pace.

2. Entourage

- The show went out of control this year! Omg!! Its completely changed itself from strictly a comedy to a drama as well. Im fiending for the next season. Let's go!!

1. Breaking Bad

-The latest season of Breaking Bad was simply bananas! The writers took this series to a completely different level this year and this was by far the best show of the year.

Yo, cuzzos! With the 2010 coming to a close, we decided to give our pick for the best animated film of 2010 and our pick is one of the greatest animated films ever made... Toy Story 3! This film was the perfect ending to the trilogy and was just oozing with nostalgia. Watching this movie was a emotional experience and if it isn't seriously considered for an Oscar, the world is lost.

Hiatus

Yo, cuzzos. Unfortunately since, I've started classes, I haven't had as much time to do posts. I've tried to give you guys a few posts but the work is just not allowing me to continue giving you quality posts so with that being said, I have to take a break from Super Hadouken. I'm not sure how long this break will be but I promise I will be back. Thanks to all the loyal fans and stay up. This will not be forever. Dueces (for now).

Movin' In Tomorrow

But I'll try my best to keep my post quality up so, don't panic. I appreciate the love we've been getting this summer so thank you and stay up.

The Final Destination Review

Aiight, cuzzo. I just peeped New Line Cinema's newest thriller, The Final Destination 3D, and I thought... it was pretty crazy. I went in expecting a fun thriller with a lot of blood and gore and that's what I got. After watching three previous movies with the same plot structure, I was no longer expecting mind-provoking plot devices, but I simply excepted it for what it was, crazy and creative death sequences. And in that department, I was very satisfied. My reaction to this quadrilogy is similar to my reaction to the Saw series. At this point, I'm numb to the plot twists so I enjoy them solely for the gadgets and traps.

Anyway, the deaths were over the top but entertaining. I mean, the ways these people died were outta control. And the suspense was amazing. I was literally on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how these people were going to die. And the 3D took the deaths over the top! The 3D effects started out a little shaky in the beginning but they gradually hit their marks as the movie progressed. I found myself cringing more than once (and I never cringe!) so this movie succeeded in what it set out to do.

Overall, it was an entertaining movie going experience. It wasn't the movie of the summer but simply a teen thriller that did its job- keep me amused for an hour and a half. It was way better than Final Destination 3 but not as good as the first two movies. I think the series should definitely end here on a somewhat good note before people start to really resent them. I don't recommend this movie for the weak of heart but if you're a fan of bloody and gory films, check out FD3D and stay up.

Late Review: Bronson

Yo, cuz. I just saw Nicolas Winding Refn's Bronson and... I thought it was really good. I anticipated that this film would be great and it didn't disappoint so it deserves a Late Review.

Bronson centers around Britain's most violent prisoner, Michael Peterson aka Charles Bronson, who turns a small 7 year prison sentence into a pending life sentence due to his urge to commit violent crimes out of boredom.

This movie was extremely entertaining. Not once was I bored or waiting for it to end. In fact, I think the one and a half hour run time was not enough to fully capture this man's story. Director Nicholas Winding Refn turned something as unsettling as a prison crime into an eye catching art form with clever musical scores and excellent camera work.

Tom Hardy's performance as Charles Bronson was phenomenal. This movie was practically a one man show and he did an amazing job of controlling the film. He really captured the demented and violent nature of Bronson while being pretty funny in the process. I actually accepted this insane prisoner as the protagonist and sympathized with him. Hardy brought out a perfect balance between Bronson's sensitivity, intelligence and his villainy to the point where I was actually rooting for this muscle-bound psychopath. It was just an overall great

performance and one of the best I've seen.

The disturbing violence was another thing that made this movie great. Every fight scene had me glued to the screen. This film was just very fascinating and entertaining. The only thing that really bothered me was the fact that the trailer shows you too much. The pay offs weren't as powerful after watching the trailer so if you haven't already, don't watch the trailer before watching the movie. But you should definitely peep the movie. Its better than most American films and its one of the best films this year. I recommend you watch it as soon as possible.

District 9 Review

Yo, cuz. I'm just getting back from seeing District 9 and... I thought it was one of the summer's best movies. This graphic, dark scifi/thriller had me on the edge of my seat with my eyes glued to the screen like no other movie this summer- make that this year.

The writing and directing involved in this film is phenomenal. Director Peter Jackson and co-writer Neill Blomkamp did a great job of adding so much depth to a movie about aliens.

Who knew that a movie about extraterrestrials who come to Earth could have so many realistic undertones? The way they were forced into slums and ghettos and treated like outlaws greatly resembles how actual human beings have been treated in real life (ie. slavery and the Halocaust). This movie really sets itself apart from other science fiction films.

District 9 also proves that you can rely heavily on CGI and not have the movie look cheap and cartoonish, something that GI Joe failed to do. After seeing this film, my faith in CGI that GI Joe destroyed is now restored. A huge ship floated over South Africa for the entire movie and it was extremely believable.

Another thing that I really liked about this film was the action. The Cloverfield- style camera work, actual news footage and exploding bodies make this an overall enjoyable movie- going experience.

Sharlto Copley was great as Wikus van der Merwe. He reminded me of a dramatic, more serious version of Steve Carrell and he portrays his metamorphosis really well as he makes you feel his pain and anguish.

They've announced that they will be making a District 9 sequel and I for one am completely for it. I would love to see more of the District 9 universe. If you haven't seen this film yet, definitely peep it. That's about it but stay up.
